Karak Chai
Qatar’s famous tea that is made with black tea, cardamom and evaporated milk, which is unique because of its strong flavor and its beautiful caramel color. This is just perfect to have after a long day.
Karak Chai


  • 2 cups water
  • 3 tsp black tea leaves or two black tea bags
  • 2 pods of cardamom crushed (can add 3 depending on your taste)
  • 1/8 tsp of saffron
  • 3 tsp xylitol sugar depending on your taste (optional)
  • 1/3 cup evaporated milk or condensed milk

Note: Condensed milk is very sweet, but taste delicious.


  1. In a small saucepan, bring the water to a boil.
  2. Add the black tea to the boiling water and let it steep for two minutes or so.
  3. Add the crushed cardamom and saffron and allow the tea boil for 30 seconds.
  4. Now add the sugar optional and evaporated/condensed milk and bring it to boil. Remove from heat, and then put back on heat and bring to a boil again. Continue this for 5 minutes until the karak tea is a rich caramel color.
  5. Note you can add a pinch of cinnamon and some ginger.
  6. Pour tea into serving cups and enjoy.
